Get to Know Me

Evelyn Barlow MSc

MIAHIP, Reg. ICP, MEAP

Ever since I was young, I knew I wanted to get into a career path that would make a difference in people’s lives. This interest led me to study counselling and psychotherapy, but only after having tried a variety of different careers, living in many different countries and gaining a lot of life experience along the way. As a fully registered and accredited Psychotherapist working in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, I am committed to the well-being of all my clients and go above and beyond to cater to their needs.

A little bit about me. Having lived abroad from 1985 until 2012, I went back to education upon my return to Ireland and completed a Masters Degree (MSc) in Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy from University College Cork (UCC) and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Integrative Clinical Psychotherapy at Turning Point Institute, Dublin (TPTI).  Alongside my core training, I have completed training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy from the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute based in Broomfield, Colorado, USA and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) with EMDR Europe, training given by Mr. Gus Murray. Both of these latter approaches are designed to facilitate the accessing and processing of traumatic memories and other adverse life experiences.

I am a fully accredited member of IAHIP (Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy) and registered with the ICP (Irish Council for Psychotherapy) and the EAP (European Association for Psychotherapy) and I abide by their respective code of ethics. Along with attending regular supervision as part of my clinical practice, I continually develop my professional skills through on-going training, seminars and workshops.

My approach to therapy is humanistic, integrative and person-centred. This means that I incorporate a variety of different therapeutic approaches in my work and every therapy session is adapted to the needs of each individual client.

For me, the relationship between me and my client is absolutely key to the healing process. I meet my clients where they are at in an open, honest and non-judgmental manner. I don't presume to know more about you than you know about yourself so my approach to therapy is very much client led. I truly care for all of my clients, and work diligently to help you find the answers you seek.

I passionately believe in the power of connection, the importance of being seen, heard and completely accepted and understood by another person. I believe that all of us have the capacity to heal our lives, deal with the difficulties we encounter on our journey and move forward with confidence and self-awareness.
